If you have any questions, please see Mrs. Stack. </p><p></p><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgf_qhRFVNlSvF-QgxRedd3F9e1mxRtacpNOxwxwOe4RjVQp3arbHuE1hQnNvi8DpjhSyrc8BaTul2F-elSxVlaxsJtzWf1PykJ7hL5UJ_ILAQmJ2xrMO8OU8qDKlGDrjzC0cBYl40OTHQzVvVC4jCe8Com6-R_JXREKwVvzxp4owoJZM5Q1lwQulrX3g/s6912/Thanksgiving%20Placemats.png" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="6912" data-original-width="5184" height="320" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgf_qhRFVNlSvF-QgxRedd3F9e1mxRtacpNOxwxwOe4RjVQp3arbHuE1hQnNvi8DpjhSyrc8BaTul2F-elSxVlaxsJtzWf1PykJ7hL5UJ_ILAQmJ2xrMO8OU8qDKlGDrjzC0cBYl40OTHQzVvVC4jCe8Com6-R_JXREKwVvzxp4owoJZM5Q1lwQulrX3g/s320/Thanksgiving%20Placemats.png" width="240" /></a></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><br /></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">Update: Students from Mrs. Geller's School & Community Leadership classes produced beautiful placemats. It spotlights current and historical attempts to censor books in libraries and schools. Laurie Halse Anderson, the author of <i>Speak</i>, is credited with this quote: “Censorship is the child of fear and the father of ignorance.”<div><br /></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjigU0hJisM2smPrY00MzQY3-3HgKxPckl-aYkI2ojGXC1g8xw1diAXPWX3uuxMHwtXfTGVkj9o4nf4mDItMjpc02WFsYNn7FH6nNkoPnIGHSF6HJ1LM8F_bVZjE2TNQWdGKTjJclOvYQEoFVCUMvkx0x_l1VNsfjg8yaAs9HI81he39mf3Qz0h0dVgMA/s1232/Screen%20Shot%202022-09-01%20at%2012.51.58%20PM.png" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="1232" data-original-width="794" height="320" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjigU0hJisM2smPrY00MzQY3-3HgKxPckl-aYkI2ojGXC1g8xw1diAXPWX3uuxMHwtXfTGVkj9o4nf4mDItMjpc02WFsYNn7FH6nNkoPnIGHSF6HJ1LM8F_bVZjE2TNQWdGKTjJclOvYQEoFVCUMvkx0x_l1VNsfjg8yaAs9HI81he39mf3Qz0h0dVgMA/s320/Screen%20Shot%202022-09-01%20at%2012.51.58%20PM.png" width="206" /></a></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><br /></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">"Books unite us. Mepham High School has such a rich history and we are lucky enough to be able to share that with you here. </p><p>I recently came across the salary schedule for Mepham High School for faculty from September 1936. Two items really stood out to me. First, there were so few teachers (obviously because there were fewer students back then). Second, do you notice which teacher was paid the most and which teacher was paid the least? </p><p></p><table align="center" cellpadding="0" cellspacing="0" class="tr-caption-container" style="margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto;"><tbody><tr><td style="text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhZusFLRjRGFXDh-WKrRMk5gSu6470Dw9LHnikexuaCK6UHdBwEXtta4Arfifr-14QfoH7jw7M_pIY1ZfE1yFs2V-OreHqW5tyqLCsQhwjjr6nHK6VjaeLtXqZMrXO3sc9NbXG_bn0DPFClFlrmqiPi5ZjICxTK8qjZg8yyrqFOLxwmk-a63orX7FDibQ/s2247/Doc%20-%20Sep%201%202022%20-%2012-13%20PM.jpg" style="margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto;"><img border="0" data-original-height="1411" data-original-width="2247" height="201" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhZusFLRjRGFXDh-WKrRMk5gSu6470Dw9LHnikexuaCK6UHdBwEXtta4Arfifr-14QfoH7jw7M_pIY1ZfE1yFs2V-OreHqW5tyqLCsQhwjjr6nHK6VjaeLtXqZMrXO3sc9NbXG_bn0DPFClFlrmqiPi5ZjICxTK8qjZg8yyrqFOLxwmk-a63orX7FDibQ/s320/Doc%20-%20Sep%201%202022%20-%2012-13%20PM.jpg" width="320" /></a></td></tr><tr><td class="tr-caption" style="text-align: center;">Salary Schedule for Mepham High School, September 1936</td></tr></tbody></table><p></p>Today school librarians are not part of the clerical staff. She greeted the students and spent time with them and her favorite chew toy. Dogs are the best medicine. She made many students and teachers smile on a day when we needed it the most. Thank you to Therapy Dogs of Long Island for arranging the visit and providing this important service to our community. A big thank you to Maddie for being patient and loving with us. <br /><br /><table align="center" cellpadding="0" cellspacing="0" class="tr-caption-container" style="margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto;"><tbody><tr><td style="text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiptnNUUrOWul5HFlGKu41V03mfuGAoUJAamc3CaGckcjhW9czYMLl0WgUQgy1f6z5W_zhC-hNquBL_66MIYUI2jdzFCzhPn4thwa1m-d_nRGAswUJ-CdS9EjV1QmZywUcNhFUohmCjheuozUwDCCXMwczjeJD0ON7Qc-U4EONvHnMz9vL9_iKHQdVUkA/s4032/IMG_6727.JPG" style="margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto;"><img border="0" data-original-height="4032" data-original-width="3024" height="320" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiptnNUUrOWul5HFlGKu41V03mfuGAoUJAamc3CaGckcjhW9czYMLl0WgUQgy1f6z5W_zhC-hNquBL_66MIYUI2jdzFCzhPn4thwa1m-d_nRGAswUJ-CdS9EjV1QmZywUcNhFUohmCjheuozUwDCCXMwczjeJD0ON7Qc-U4EONvHnMz9vL9_iKHQdVUkA/s320/IMG_6727.JPG" width="240" /></a></td></tr><tr><td class="tr-caption" style="text-align: center;">Maddie</td></tr></tbody></table><table align="center" cellpadding="0" cellspacing="0" class="tr-caption-container" style="margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto;"><tbody><tr><td style="text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjfmyaBjxIlvFD_BZ1mhqLUxlzZUmMuZhjWeEa95p3K6tRTubzF-MwmuHHy46HpUnsEkQIFf0GZwFuTKTbUfKK6yE_XRVU9bYcTpl-mJGc5PAJdeTAVbaz2X3erNTopHWBkFO2zmPwuFYxpc3cmdGHbSV1YLxnkVowOxuthx1MEZzKYkG89vpXsdZC9Lw/s4032/IMG_6722.JPG" style="margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto;"><img border="0" data-original-height="4032" data-original-width="3024" height="320" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjfmyaBjxIlvFD_BZ1mhqLUxlzZUmMuZhjWeEa95p3K6tRTubzF-MwmuHHy46HpUnsEkQIFf0GZwFuTKTbUfKK6yE_XRVU9bYcTpl-mJGc5PAJdeTAVbaz2X3erNTopHWBkFO2zmPwuFYxpc3cmdGHbSV1YLxnkVowOxuthx1MEZzKYkG89vpXsdZC9Lw/s320/IMG_6722.JPG" width="240" /></a></td></tr><tr><td class="tr-caption" style="text-align: center;">Maddie with her handler, Gail</td></tr></tbody></table>Ms. Stackhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/17748256495219483835noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8995620709519261353.post-53060533588746123042022-05-16T13:17:00.006-04:002022-05-16T13:18:05.379-04:00Therapy Dogs of Long Island<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhu20MFRw39lf3CVlm_Q9CMfvSPiMOwNm38Nl1c2_Tnx0V2Rz41LqJNs0w2SNM-NrBEpWlZT-nI1TrfYz1MRH_O7Dac2_P3tIVGG4MOxTOJ0FrB0-xZd-1sxUnCOAgHFNow26T_L9bnRxg4Jt3lJZ7OrE_auQmnXs8QvOEmD_SoNWmQeLq2MtkdIY1w4w/s6000/Therapy%20Dogs%20of%20LI.png" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="6000" data-original-width="4286" height="320" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhu20MFRw39lf3CVlm_Q9CMfvSPiMOwNm38Nl1c2_Tnx0V2Rz41LqJNs0w2SNM-NrBEpWlZT-nI1TrfYz1MRH_O7Dac2_P3tIVGG4MOxTOJ0FrB0-xZd-1sxUnCOAgHFNow26T_L9bnRxg4Jt3lJZ7OrE_auQmnXs8QvOEmD_SoNWmQeLq2MtkdIY1w4w/s320/Therapy%20Dogs%20of%20LI.png" width="229" /></a></div>Come meet Maddie a lab/Greyhound mix therapy dog. This full-day workshop was designed to facilitate and foster collaboration between K-12 educators and those working in local museums, archives, libraries, and other cultural organizations that collect, preserve, and make accessible historical records. We had the opportunity to come together for a day of professional learning and knowledge sharing with the goal of working on ways to facilitate better channels of communication between teachers and custodians of local primary sources. We also explored and learned about the different ways historical records can be used in the classroom. The keynote speaker, Josephine Smith, Cultural Educator, Shinnecock Indian Education Program, spoke about the importance of viewing documents with a critical eye. We are continuing to brainstorm ways to bring historical societies and primary documents into our schools. Stay tuned for some fun creative ideas coming to Bellmore.</p><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEivTsKYOGf50QLbkUnnAO__Oy1WjUSgRmgRx4Ir1uyH7aas3aPLTCc2DfoaU13G4g_tOGIovlXHEIjFXfrP3fCqS6rm1B2jV87n97BvwlFMAtpAnQP1oD8ax3aNsUHg333DWjyUEeCfi1QgKjS-yNcQdS9jUS93VWHXCcu9qqQ8AjksRsOe1CwOfLhKjQ/s2915/IMG_6040.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="2915" data-original-width="2915" height="320" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEivTsKYOGf50QLbkUnnAO__Oy1WjUSgRmgRx4Ir1uyH7aas3aPLTCc2DfoaU13G4g_tOGIovlXHEIjFXfrP3fCqS6rm1B2jV87n97BvwlFMAtpAnQP1oD8ax3aNsUHg333DWjyUEeCfi1QgKjS-yNcQdS9jUS93VWHXCcu9qqQ8AjksRsOe1CwOfLhKjQ/s320/IMG_6040.jpg" width="320" /></a></div>Ms. Stackhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/17748256495219483835noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8995620709519261353.post-38373092284976604192022-04-07T12:28:00.008-04:002022-04-07T12:28:00.159-04:00Library Card Poems<p>On April 11, 2022, after school in the library, we will be hosting an ELITE Event for National Poetry Month. On Monday, April 11th join us after school in the library to make your own Library Card Poem. Don't know what that means? Neither do we. It can be anything you want it to be. We will supply old-fashioned library cards and writing implements (pen, pencil, marker, crayon, colored pencil, etc.) and you write down your poem. When you are finished, you can take it with you or we can display it in the library. Perhaps you will write a sonnet or a haiku. It's entirely up to you! </p><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiB2y6pP8SAfWEfHb3Z5zdESZ0ddVa6JEtOle2iSY3zU2gZbrtpxQlgIRWTnvpsKMeLVNB7IRPecKyZMymVhp11PcG4rUEebH6DyvmjZZoMsHPy0TOI9hQ4BtU33ojK0ggKRozDurFly5rDRvVWhfadxT2X5TgMg9OBACmQDazB5I1X0Ziqm_8lM3rPOA/s1068/Screen%20Shot%202022-04-01%20at%2012.01.24%20PM.png" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="1068" data-original-width="830" height="320" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiB2y6pP8SAfWEfHb3Z5zdESZ0ddVa6JEtOle2iSY3zU2gZbrtpxQlgIRWTnvpsKMeLVNB7IRPecKyZMymVhp11PcG4rUEebH6DyvmjZZoMsHPy0TOI9hQ4BtU33ojK0ggKRozDurFly5rDRvVWhfadxT2X5TgMg9OBACmQDazB5I1X0Ziqm_8lM3rPOA/s320/Screen%20Shot%202022-04-01%20at%2012.01.24%20PM.png" width="249" /></a></div><p><b>About National Poetry Month:</b></p><p>Launched by the Academy of American Poets in April 1996, National Poetry Month reminds the public that poets have an integral role to play in our culture and that poetry matters. Over the years, it has become the largest literary celebration in the world, with tens of millions of readers, students, K–12 teachers, librarians, booksellers, literary events curators, publishers, families, and—of course—poets, marking poetry's important place in our lives.</p>Ms. Stackhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/17748256495219483835noreply@blogger.com0
