'PTA Reflections is a nationally acclaimed student recognition program to encourage artistic creativity in the classroom and at home. National PTA Reflections welcomes all grades and abilities to explore and be involved in the arts. Annually, thousands of students will reflect on a common theme and create original works of art."

Students may choose one or all of the available arts categories:

Irish Cultural Society Writing Contest

Irish Cultural Society Writing Contest

In this year’s Annual Writing Contest, they are asking you to identify a main idea in a speech by President of Ireland, Eamon de Valera, and to analyze how he used rhetorical devices to develop the main idea. President de Valera’s radio address, delivered in 1943, is posted on the society's website.

“Freedom to Read” Essay and Art Contest

The Intellectual Freedom Committee of the Nassau County Library Association presents the Eleventh Annual “Freedom to Read” Essay and Art Contest.

Pick an Important Action Taken by a Character in a Story or Movie.

What would YOU have done? Why?

Entries must be received by April 1, 2015.

You may enter one or both parts of the contest:

• Write a one page essay
• Create an original picture or design (Copies or tracings of book covers will not be accepted)

Winners to be posted May 11, 2015 on the Nassau County Library Association homepage & the Intellectual Freedom Committee of Nassau County Library Association Facebook Page.

Reception at the Levittown Public Library on Thursday, May 21, 2015 at 7:30 p.m.

Letters About Literature

At Mepham High School, we like to give our students many opportunities to showcase their talents. One way we do this is through writing contests, like Mepham's Literary Magazine Fragments and PTA's Reflections. Letters About Literature is another wonderful contest that we are encouraging all of our students to participate in. It is a reading and writing contest for students in grades 4-12.

From the Letters about Literature Website: 

"Students are asked to read a book, poem or speech and write to that author (living or dead) about how the book affected them personally. Letters are judged on state and national levels... Here are the Rules and Guidelines." 

Submission deadlines to the Library of Congress national program for high school students is:
