Teen Tech Week is when libraries make the time to showcase all of the great digital resources and services that are available to help teens succeed in school and prepare for college and 21st century careers.

We are celebrating Teen Tech Week with the theme "Libraries are for Creating," March 4-10, 2018. This year's theme encourages teens to take advantage of all the great digital tools offered through their school library to become content creators, and to leverage library resources to share out their creations, whether they be podcasts, videos, apps, games, wearable tech, or some other fabulous invention or creation!

The Mepham High School Library has so many great digital resources to create content, such as:

Be the Source of Change

We are celebrating Teen Tech Week with the theme "Be the Source of Change," March 5-11, 2017. Teen Tech Week is when libraries make the time to showcase all of the great digital resources and services that are available to help teens succeed in school and prepare for college and 21st century careers. This year's theme encourages teens to take advantage of all the great digital resources offered through the library to make a positive change in their life and community.

The Mepham High School Library has so many great digital resources, such as:

Celebrate the next Teen Tech Week with us, March 6-12, 2016, with the theme "Create it at your library." Visit the Mepham High School Library all week to explore, create and share the world of technology. Your library offers more than just books, so check out our new MakerSpace!

Teen Tech Week is a national initiative of the Young Adult Library Services Association (YALSA) aimed at teens, their parents, educators and other concerned adults. The purpose of the initiative is to ensure that teens are competent and ethical users of technology, especially they types offered through libraries. Teen Tech Week encourages teens to take advantage of the technology at libraries for education and recreation, and to recognize that librarians are qualified, trusted professionals who can help them achieve greater digital literacy.

Shari Stack, Librarian, W.C. Mepham High School, feels that "Getting teens into libraries is essential. Offering gaming, access to computers, and online homework help is important, and letting them know that we can help educate them on how to use these resources will get them in the door. Once they’re in the door, we can show teens that with technology at the library, anything is possible.”

"Teen Tech Week is a way for librarians and educators to collaborate with and educate teens about technology,” says Marla Gellerman, Senior Library Clerk, W.C. Mepham High School. “Over the last several years the library’s role in increasing digital literacy has become more and more important, equal to that of reading literacy.”

Our school library gives students a space to extend learning beyond the classroom where they can explore, create and share content. When our students spend time in the library, they are gaining the digital literacy skills they need to be successful.

DIY @ your library

Teen Tech Week is March 9 -15, 2014. Here are some ways to celebrate:

1. Download an ebook from our library right here.
2. Use our mobile app for your phone or tablet, download and give it a try!
3. Visit your library's webpage right here. 
4. Try out a book-focused site like GoodReads, LibraryThing or Shelfari.
5. Create a soundtrack or book trailer for your favorite book.
6. Ask your librarian to recommend a nonfiction book on an area of technology that interests you.
7. Join the Computer Club. We meet on Mondays after school in room 303. Ms. Stack, your librarian is the club advisor.
8. Follow @MephamHS on Twitter.

This Teen Tech Week™ (March 4–10) invites you to Geek Out @ your library! There are a lot of fantastic FREE web resources you can use right here in school:

BibMe- Works cited and bibliography pages created for you with full citations and correct formatting. Don't worry about where the comma goes ever again!

DropBox- Online file storage. Has handy apps for smartphones and tablets that mean no more hoping you remembered to email yourself the final draft of the paper that's due in about ten minutes.

Picnik- This photo editing site is free and easy to use. Graphics and photos are easily edited and enhanced on Picnik.

Zamzar- File conversion system. Turns any file into any other kind of file. A life-saver for getting around those "My file won't open on this computer!" freakouts.

They join thousands of other libraries and schools across the country who are celebrating this year’s theme, "Press Play @ Your Library®.” Teen Tech Week is a national initiative of the Young Adult Library Services Association (YALSA) aimed at teens, their parents, educators and other concerned adults. The purpose of the initiative is to ensure that teens are competent and ethical users of technologies, especially those that are offered through libraries. Teen Tech Week encourages teens to use libraries' non-print resources for education and recreation, and to recognize that librarians are qualified, trusted professionals in the field of information technology.
